The Simplistic Guide to Generating Leads Online

Generating conversions is done through lead generation. Without leads, conversions are left unturned.

Without conversions — profit isn’t earned. Money isn’t made.

To generate leads, we want to first become best-friends with the web and know how to leverage its inner power, for our own wicked intentions. (more…)

How To Become An Influencer on Google Plus

As a creative marketer and established author, it has always been my goal to become an influencer within my niche. It’s every authors dream. In the past I’ve written articles showing you how to find Google Plus Ripples and how to engage with industry influencers.

Today I’d like to outline “how you can become an influencer”, by implementing Google Plus.

Caution: There Will Be Some Work Involved and Becoming an Influencer Doesn’t Happen Overnight!

How To Become An Influencer on Google Plus

Becoming an influencer in your niche isn’t something you purchase and isn’t something that you build overnight. Becoming an influencer is sort of similar to respect, it’s earned — over time.

To get a jump on things, you want to find one Social Media platform, for this example I’m going to use Google Plus, because Google Plus is currently the most awesome Social Media platform online.

It helps if you enjoy being an user on the Social Media platform you choose. The platform you choose could be any sort of online community, whether it’s a forum, Social Media platform or whatever.

How To Become An Influencer on Google Plus

Pick one. Once you’ve made up your mind, you should start using this online community 24/7. Becoming an influencer does take time and it’s slices the time it takes in half if you stand on top of just one community and work your way up.

Find topics that surround your expertise and start getting yourself involved in every conversation that takes place. Position yourself as the expert on your topics.

Share content (NOT JUST YOUR OWN) about your area of expertise and start getting yourself recognized by other thought influencers.

Work Your Way To The Top

At this point (if you’ve been following the above guidelines) you should have a feel for things. You aren’t trying to become a known entity on 50 different platforms, you’re working your one online (Google+) community and steadily working your way to the top.

You’re making sure to not miss out on any relevant conversations. You can’t ever feel that you’re talking too much. Talking is your job! Work your way around Google+ as if you own it.

As time evolves, you grow and so does your follower count. I just started using Google+ several months ago and my follower count is already 6k. Actions speak louder than words.

If you’re an expert on your subject, it won’t take a load of geniuses to figure out that you deserve a place at the top!

-Being The Expert-

Aside from working your way to the top of the ladder on Google Plus, you’re going to need the right tools to prove yourself as an influencer in a particular niche. Especially a competitive niche.

Your new job is going to be so much fun!

You should start to publish new (high quality – kick ass) content on your blog 2-3 times a week.

Being an influencer isn’t about using Google Plus. It’s about proving yourself while on Google+. There’s more to being a fabulous author, than just creating content.

Unique content means zip, zilch, nada — nothing.

Creating mind blowing, valuable, actionable content that lasts in the minds of your readers, means everything.

Do you think that Michael Jordan was birthed from his mother, with talent? Hell no he wasn’t. Though with practice and lots of practice — he established himself as a professional.

The same things applies to becoming a great author. Practice makes perfect. The more you practice, the better you’ll become.

Standing Out From The Crowd

I read a comment yesterday and feel it would be nicely quoted here. Ilene Smith commented on a post that was written by Matthew Woodward

If I were anyone else I would totally agree with you. But I think I’m a special case.

I’m in a niche of blogging about blogging and my friend Ana Hoffman has been teaching this strategy for a couple of years now. Since most of my “competitors” follow her and they follow me as well – I know that they are using this strategy. Because they are ranking for the exact keywords that she and I talk about all the time.

Pat Flynn has been on the other side of the coin and so has my other friend Lisa Irby. That’s why they learned to be a little transparent about some of their newer niche site ideas.

As far as any kind of “spinning” is concerned, that’s not something I would even consider.

Thanks for all your advice and I’ll be sure to share this post with my networks.

Matthew Woodward replied saying:

So in essence what you have is a bunch of people doing the exact same thing as a bunch of other people?

There is some serious risk there!

This is a fine example of influencers copying one another. The importance of being unique is at the highest level of demand.

The web has o many copy catters.

There’s plenty of room for uniqueness. If you can separate yourself and stand outside of the box by doing something unique, this too will slice the time in half, in which it might take you to become a well known entity within your niche.

Everything you do should be UNIQUE. The images you use in your blog posts should be unique too. Never overlook the small things, as in many cases it’s the small things that many marketers overlook.

Relationships bring opportunities!

The Conclusion to My Hypothesis

If you follow the above guideline, I can assure you — your influence over others will sky-rocket. I can guarantee you that. If you follow what I’ve outlines and you don’t make MASSIVE GAINS then I will pay you 1,000$

Guest Blogging Is Dead Says Google

For a couple of years now, I’ve been speculating that Guest Blogging was a terrible idea and would soon be tackled by Google’s web spam team, eventually causing harm to guest bloggers who took part in the link building scheme.

Does this mean that site’s like Moz will be penalized?

There’s a lot of questions surrounding guest posting at this time, especially now that Google’s grunt has spoken. I’d like to help shine a little light unto the darkness and help you to make some decisions about how you can proceed in the near future.

Guest Blogging Is Dead!

Did Google make a change to their Search Engine algorithm, putting a filter in place to target guest posting? As far as I know — no Google didn’t!

Matt can say all he wants, that doesn’t mean Google is following suite.

Let’s say that Google does step-up to the plate and follow suite. Let’s take a close look at exactly what Matt wrote today on his blog and decipher what we can do to continue contributing to other blogs.

A quote from Matt Cutts:

1.) Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.

Keywords from the above quote: “You should probably stop.” Because you’re using guest blogging as a link building strategy, doesn’t mean you’re hanging out with anyone..

Come on Matt, be realistic . Let’s take a quick look at Google’s quality guidelines.

Many website owners are probably paying for guest posting services. This is the same as paying for a link and thus violates Google’s quality guidelines. There’s a lot of this going on nowadays.

I see it everyday. People don’t even try to be smart about what they’re doing anymore, as if what they’re doing is legitimate. One bad apple and.. we all have to suffer.

Google isn’t hamering down on Guest Posts completely. What Google is pissed off about is webidiots webmasters who continuously try to game the system. Wouldn’t you be if people constantly spammed your site?

Why would you want a guest post on an irrelevant, spammy website anyways? Why? There’s NO ranking benefits in doing this and the links are hurting your site more than they are helping it. Are you guys too blind to see this?

Matt Comments on his own blog in reply to a user:

If the links in a guest post are nofollowed then it doesn’t affect PageRank, so that would be within our guidelines. I agree that some guest blog posts can be a good way to get exposure to a new audience. I just wanted to highlight that guest blogging as a whole has gotten pretty spammy at this point.

So – there you have it — writing a guest blog post on an authority site is OK. Writing guest posts on any site is OK, as long as you nofollow the links in the article and author bio.

There was some great videos posted by Matt today, on his blog. I recommend that you watch them, if you haven’t already.

My Guest Posting Recommendations

I personally do not advise for you to post your content on someone else’s blog. You’re better off posting it on your own blog, for your own benefits.

If you’re going to contribute content to other site’s, then only contribute to site’s that allow for you to write more than one article per month. Your goal should be to find 2-3 blogs that you really like and write a monthly column for them.

A monthly column should consist of 1-2+ articles monthly.

Spreading your content out across the web isn’t going to be as beneficial, as if you was to simply focus on 2-3 popular blogs and build UP your audience there, instead of trying to be a popular guest blogger on every blog on the web.

In Conclusion

Continue to build authority. Continue to guest blog but start using a more strategic marketing plan. Stick to 2-3 blogs and write the highest quality, most kick ass content as you possibly can.

There’s a right way to do things and then there’s a wrong way to do things. If you’re consistent on doing things the wrong way, when your site becomes penalized for six months don’t go crying. Don’t say I didn’t tell ya so — You’ve asked for it.
